With the year winding down I thought I would look at some of the celebrity weddings that will be setting the trends for seasons to come. The problem with magazines is that the photos they are publishing that tend to guide and shape the trends of the coming season for us “regular” folk are of weddings that have happened months before.
Celebrity weddings provide incredible eye candy for those looking for lavish over the top ideas. When there is no budget the sky and beyond are the limit.
Please feel free to share any celebrity weddings that I may not have included. 2014 had some great ones and I didn’t feel I needed to mention them all.
One trend that I have noticed is that celebrities are taking their weddings overseas. Quite a few from 2014 were European destination weddings. The historical backdrops provide stunning venues and breathtaking photos. While those that stayed local still had fun and beautiful elements. I look forward to see what will inspire brides this year.
Kim Kardashian & Kanye West
Location: Forte di Belvedere, Florence, Italy
Dress: Givenchy Haute Couture
Who wouldn’t want to have a bachelorette party at the Louvre and Eiffle Tower? While renting out Palace de Versailles for your rehearsal dinner before jetting off to Italy for the main event? This was truly a fairy tale wedding. All white was the theme from the bride’s dress, to bridesmaids gowns to the stunning backdrop wall of florals. Perhaps this color trend will carry over to 2015.
Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt
Location: Private chapel, Chateau Miraval, Southern France
Dress: Atelier Versace
A small intimate affair, where the focus was on family. This trend may move away from the elaborate production of weddings where only a small group of friends and family will share in the day. The couple brought unique elements that reflected them and their family to the day making it incredibly personal. What was remarkable from the recounting of the event in People Magazine was how everyone had a part to play at the wedding which would only help to create special memories. Moving away from cookie cutter events, this option of making the wedding uber-personal will more than likely continue for couples getting married in 2015.
Kaley Cuoco & Ryan Sweeting
Location: Hummingbird Nest Ranch, Santa Susana, California
Date: New Year’s Eve
Dress: Vera Wang
A twist on tradition. Why not where a colored wedding gown? Kaley had a stunning strapless pink gown by Vera Wang. The color was brought in through other elements of the event to capture the fire and ice theme. There were a few show stopping moments that included a fire juggler and a designer upside down wedding cake suspended on a chandelier. Never before seen entertainment and things that you don’t associate with weddings are becoming popular, think food trucks and carnival games that we have seen this past year. I wonder what the New Year will bring?
Amal Alamuddin & George Clooney
Location: Aman Grand Canal, Venice, Italy
Dress: Oscar de la Renta
Weddings are moving away from a one day affair to a multi-day event. This wedding was a 3 day party for the guests. From the reports it is nice to see a mix of traditions. Bringing in a menu that reflected the bride’s heritage as well as the location of the wedding, to personally written vows. Although it was a short ceremony (it is said to have been just 18 minutes) the celebrations lasted well in to the night. This was event was about celebrating the love of the couple and enjoying time with friends and family, something that should always be the focus of a wedding.
Jenny McCarthy & Donnie Wahlberg
Location: Hotel Baker, St. Charles, Illinois
Dress: Di Santo
With a timeless color palette of red, white and black, which is a favorite for many brides, the choices for this wedding scream romance. Red roses provide a vivid contrast and are always a popular choice for brides. The aisle was lined with rose petals, which is almost every brides dream. I think that red will continue to be a color choice for weddings regardless of the season or what else is trending for wedding colors. Although not for everyone it is a dramatic choice.
